Chapter 4: System unit component

What is system unit? When we buy desktop, it come with monitor, keyboard, mouse, and a big huge box which call CPU. The system unit is a case that contains electronic components of the computer to process data. Motherboard in the CPU is the main heart for the system unit. Processor, which called as the central processing unit (CPU) which brain of the computer. It has ALU (arithmetic logic unit) CU( control units). When buying computer, we will heard multi-core processor, dual-core processor, quad-core processor. The processor is mean how fast does the computer can be operate. The leading manufacturer of personal computer processor chips are Intel and AMD. ALU is processing information such as arithmetic, comparison, and other operation while control unit is the component of processor that directs and coordinates most of the operations in the computer.

The machine cycle of each computer will be the same which are fetch, decode, execute, store. This is how the system unit will interpret the information that we key in. Processor will come with cooling system. Why? Can you keep work without resting? Will you burnt out? YES, so does processor. cooling system help to maintain the temperature of processor chip to avoid it be burn up. Now, memory is consists of electronic components that store instructions waiting to be executed by the processor, data needed by those instructions, and the results of processing the data. Each location in memory has an address. Now, the most big for memory is TERABYTES. There are 2 type of memory which are RAM and ROM. RAM chips usually reside on a memory module and are inserted into memory slots. RAM has memory cache speeds the processes of the computer because it stores frequently used instructions and data. ROM (read only memory) refers to memory chips storing permanent data and instructions. Well-known and use is usb port. It connect to several device such as keyboard, mouse, speaker, projector, etc. Beside usb port, memory card which use to store memory is one type of ROM as well. Memory card been use in smart phone, digital camera, play station, etc.
